July 1965, a 20 year old Riverside college student, John Frederick Anderson, murdered Howard G. Morford and was also accused in a robbery/slaying of a cab driver.

Another coincidence! Him being a Riverside college student, probably at the same school as Bates, is interesting due to the time of this incident.
