Hey guys, just wanted to let you know that I won't be on here much for the next month or two. It's football season and I am trying to get some writing done for a comedy skit TV show that I want to do. Plus, I am getting a little burnt out on the Zodiac stuff. I will always be interested in the case, just need a small break from it. I will check the boards and see what's going on, though.

Thanks, man. I will still be posting a bit but not doing much research for a while. I got to catch up on some TV shows before my DVR gets full. Got football to watch on weekends. College basketball season starts soon and Iowa State will start the season ranked in the top 10 so it could be a very good year! I'm also going on vacation in a few weeks.

Yeah I went to L.A. for a week. We went to Knotts Scary Farms, Universal Studio, Hollywood Walk of Fame and then 4 days at Disneyland. Also got to swim in the ocean for the first time. It was amazing!

I walked about 35-40 miles over 8 days and still gained 7 pounds because I ate so much good food.

You bit! my parents took us on a vacation of a lifetime then for us to Vegas, L A , S F the first week of june 71 driving there ,Disney land was the main objective .
But when other relatives knew we were going to San Francisco a older cousin of mine wanted us to take many photos of the zodiac killers crime scenes because she and her brother worked at a weekly newspaper in the Ozarks .
I remember the Zodiac killer being huge down there as they got little media ,only CBS out of Springfield barely .
the plan was to have my parents take many ,many photos of the crime scenes ,use the best to print a extended piece on the zodiac which would sell well then offer the extra photos to other media . The snag in the plan was a nikon N1 my parents had about the same chances to operate it as winning the lottery. But I watched as She explained it and I could do it ( the N1 was not a focus through the lens ,and the appature was slow to get right and focus)
We however decided not to take the nikon camera ,my Mom asked me if I wanted to do it ,I was 12 . I knew nothing of why I was to take pictures of someplaces btw. I don't think Mom and Dad wanted me at these places with a $$$$ camera around my neck either .
we bought a 110 camera and took pics of the crime scenes but at estes park Co on the return trip the heat from the Sun wiped out most pictures .
I remember 1st going to the Cheri bates scene and parking blocking that alley /drive between the houses ....i'll finish with what happened there.
At San Francisco we ate at Fishermans warf -prawn shrimp ,drove down Lumbard st. 4 times ,I got to steer once ,and went to a museum then drove to the stine crime scene ,needing to park to take pics we found 3 other families doing the same thing and had to wait until we could get a parking space right where the cab was that night ,I got out as Mom took pics
we sat there 10-12 min ,as we pulled out to leave a mid sized mid 60's olds or buick sped in and blocked us ,dad thought we were being robbed and tried to back out ,two men exitted the car and had police neck strap I D's so we stopped one the lead guy had hair very wirery like Toschi ,maybe it was him ...?

In the bay area we came to the Lake herman turn around I asked to get out but NO! was the answer
Then it was Blue Rock springs park ,I was excited to go down to the playground ,but couldn't ,only stay by the car right where the corvair was parked that night in 69 . I think she took my picture next to the big trees .
On to Lake berryessa and Zodiac island we drove around but did not know where it was so mom asked at the ranger station ,they were not helpful just gave a map but in the parking lot an old ranger going in stopped and he was friendly and said it was just up the road.
mom only got out and made her way down the trail ,ten min. later came running back gasping for breath saying someone was down there scaring her telling Dad to go...go , Dad had a big grin i'll post the CJB part

Man, I couldn't imagine seeing the crime scenes in person just a couple years after the murders happened. Was it scary or exciting? Or both?

Well no because I was not told it was the Zodiac crime scenes ,a sibling knew
At BRS I remember my dad giving me a 20oz or so bottle of orange soda to keep me quiet
Mom took a picture of me in front of the trees where the corvair was on 7/4 and I saw that picture 10 yrs ago ,but have not relocated it yet ,there were 7,8 pics she took that were not totally destroyed and the cousin took them. If I would have known I am sure I would have done it ,the cousin wanted panoramic pics . it would be so cool to have taken them in 71.
My memories of Zodiac back then in 69 were limited . I saw part of cronkite talking about it for 15 sec. and a older kid being interested in it ,some teachers started talking about it near me when Stine was killed in 5th grade , it was in Cal. so I let it go .
at the stine scene I did get out of the car parked exactly where the cab was ,I remember so spray painted graffity on the curb that had been powerwashed off some .and the tree fowledge in the side walk were cut to a large beachball shape ,thought that was so weird, i took moms pic there and I was in one too.

Now Cheri Bates
We had gone to D-land all day on Sat. then went back 1/2 day Sun leaving at 2 and drove stop and go for 2-3 hours ? I was getting restless and we pull up at the place in the photo that has the 2 houses and the drive I said -this is it this is what you wanted to see?
dad was blocking the drive and I told him so, He said he knew . They are taking pics pointing here and there . I wanted to stand up by the car and got yelled at NO and a shouting match started every one in the 70 Impala (metallic green, black vinyl top)
I had the R back window down kneeled on the seat and stuck my torso out . It was a overcast day medium chance of rain , I looked at the houses then down the drive and soon a shaft of light cast on a spot off the gravel drive 60-70 ft away and very bright near the ground then I see something drifting around in it like a pearl colored silk scarf ,it mesmerized me
When I stuck my head out the arguement was dwendling down i getting in a -well you said ...
this is a stupid place ...kinda thing . i was still talking some, a minute after seeing this light which was exactly were cheri's body was btw my sister yanked me back in the car but starring at my parents ,I didn't know who they were or even I was. Dad and Mom looked terrrified . I never saw my Dad that scared before ,starring at me .Mom said -should we take him to the emergency room? I asked why
but they didn't answer, then my sister said "you were talking in tongues "
It took 1-2 min. until I realized who I was ,they were , this is our car

I wanted to stop in Riverside and take pics of Cheri's murder scene, but we didn't have time.

The scene looks nothing like it did then.
Her spot is a parking space I understand
I will Look again for the BRS pic with me in it ,I did see a D land pic of the trip too
The riverside incident was a minor weird thing that happened that year to me. TWO others

The scariest thing happened later  the day we were at CJB scene and it is well known . we left to drive to S F and wanted to see the giant redwoods along hiway1 -bigsur area .around 9:45 pm in the redwood forest driving ,it was pitch black dark listening to the radio the DJ had an anouncement a man had been killed nearby  stabbed with a knife and his heart cut out and the killer  ate it .
Any one remember that ? it made national news (he the guy got out 10 ? years ago)
the DJ was trembling as he was alone at the transmitter he asking for his relaives to come there to protect him over the  AM radio ,we were heading to where it happened 50 miles away ,the D J saying "do not pick up any hitchhikers"  10 -15 miles down the road a car was stopped blocking the road, then it went ahead and as we passed a guy was hitchhiking the other way ...its good nobody went BOO then
But maybe the most frightening thing on the trip was on the route 66 undevided hiway dad trying to pass cars and the Navajo tandem trailor trucks  swerving all over the road esp after a truck in front of you passed it .on the flat straight roads
you could not really guage the distance or speed of oncoming traffic we nearly bought it 2-3 times
ah the 60's and early 70's it was a different world

Hay everyone! Sorry I haven't been online much lately. I don't have a computer and don't like using Internet on my phone much. I usually use the computer at work to do research and post on here, but I have been training a new lady and haven't been able to do anything online. Hopefully I will have her trained in the next 2-3 weeks and can get back to my regular routine.

I wasn't born yet so I definitely don't remember that nor have I heard that story. Do you know if the person was ever caught? I wonder if the killer was a Satanist or member of some crazy cult.

Yes he was ,I think months later for a while then it was a big story across the nation ,still being talked of when we got home
About 7_10 years ago I was sitting at a stoplite listening to NPR and they told of this crime and that he was being granted parole
Wow it took me back to that night in 71

I haven't had a chance to do much writing lately. I have some cool skits for a comedy TV show I want to do and I want to write a DB Cooper movie as well as a movie about William Thoresen III but just haven't had the time lately. I will get around to these things eventually though.
