Re: What music are you listening to?
Good taste in music, Rocketman! Cyclone Temple was a badass Thrash band from Chicago back in the early 90's. I think they only released the two albums, but they are both really good. I can hear a small Pantera sound in some of their songs. I wonder if they influenced Pantera's change in sound when they decided to go "heavy."
Have you heard a band called Exhorder? They were also a "groove/Thrash" band from the late 80's/early 90's. They definitely influenced Pantera. There was a whole big thing about it years ago where some Exhorder fans accused Pantera of stealing Exhorder's sound. There are certain songs that do sound very similar. But who cares? I love both bands. And I love Cyclone Temple.

Slayer was my favorite band until I heard Acid Bath in the mid 90's. Now I could care less about them. They haven't put out a good album since Seasons in the Abyss. Divine Intervention had some good songs but was the start of Slayer's "downslide." I really like the Undisputed Attitude album where they did some cool punk covers. Every album since then has had a couple decent songs but overall they have not been all that good.

Hey thanks. I was told you were the guy to talk to about metal. Can you recommend some other bands I should listen to? Im not so much into the death or black metal or grindcore stuff but I love older thrash and punk rock of the 80s and also 90s grunge and alternative plus classic rock of the 60s and 70s. I have actually heard Exhorder before and really like their stuff. I agree that the similarities with Pantera are present.

I cant disagree with any of that. From the early 80s until the early 90s Slayer was just flat out awesome. Them and Metallica were the top 2 bands in heavy metal. They both changed directions. Metallica went 'softer' and Slayer I think just lost their touch or something. I'm not really sure what happened with them. With Metallica they changed styles completely. Slayer didn't really do that. I don't know what they started doing different. Their music started becoming a little less heavy but not a drastic change or anything. I don't know, I just cant explain it.
