Re: What music are you listening to Vol. 2
I checked out Excel. I think you may have posted that before. There's at least one CRUCIAL difference between the two songs; I liked listening to "Tapping into the Emotional Void." Not Voigt. lol. When I first heard "Sandman," I waz like, "this sucks" but I waz cool with a good band I liked maybe making some real money. I still excitedly bought the CD the day it came out, a few weeks later. Not only waz I bitterly disappointed and feeling ripped off, I felt kind of BETRAYED, like if a trusted friend that I could always count on had let me down on purpose.
Some people say that after Cliff died, they went to shit. But I don't think that's true. "And Justice" to me is a real good album, even though I don't listen to it often. And say what you want about that record, I'm pretty sure that (excepting "One," which I like OK) you won't accuse them of being overly commercial with it.
"Iron Man?" O HELL yea!

Re: What music are you listening to Vol. 2
Hey. Is this the "What music are you listening to" thread? Vol. 2? Yeah. Well right this very 2nd as I type this, I'm listening to the criminally under-respected 1974 classic, Secret Treaties by Blue Oyster Cult. A band who did all right but got way less than they deserved. Sit back, relax, maybe enjoy some recreational intoxicants if that's your thing and read some interesting shit about a long-ago California serial killer while you enjoy this awesome record by a hella good band at the very top of their game!
You're welcome! No need to thank me actually. It's my pleasure!

blue oyster cult rules!!
metallica's black album is when they just completely sold out and turned into a commercial ROCK band. not metal but rock. they abandoned everything metal. the album was garbage and everything they have done since then has been garbage also

"and justice..." did have some good songs I agree with that. harvester of sorrow is my favorite from the album but one is a great song too. I personally like kill em all the best of all their albums

OK. It's a tough call, but if you give me the bonus tracks version containing "Am I Evil?" I'll award the belt to Kill 'em All.

Re: What music are you listening to Vol. 2
When most people think of the J Geils Band, if they think of them at all, they're recalling that Freeze-Frame, "Centerfold" crap. Even that sucky record has a welfare-Springsteen deep cut that I kind of like (but won't reveal to y'all at the risk of losing my street cred). Â That waz their push for some serious money and it kind of worked. They'd had some successes before that, but nothing too major.
But prior to selling out (not that they ever were Captain Beefheart or anything), they were this well-respected, talented, blues- and R&B-influenced 70's American Rock'n'Roll band. Not everything they did waz magic by any means but a decent amount of their output at least kind of came close. And Mr Geils wasn't even the main man in his namesake group. The keyboardist and the singer were the Keith and Mick of that band. Geils wasn't quite even their Mick Taylor (and not just because Mick Taylor is the far superior player). Hell, give ME a talented lead guitarist who'll do whatever the fuck I tell him to and I could put something together that a few people might like.
I've been told that in the 70's, a lot of people considered the J Geils Band to be the American Rolling Stones (during an era when the Stones were probably the greatest rock band in history), which I think is due more to a slight similarity in styles than to actual quality. There were just a band that waz pretty good, I guess. I honestly don't know why I'm typing this much about them right now. Maybe it's because John Warren Geils passed away yesterday at the age of 71 and hearing that news has made me a little sadder than I would have expected it to.
Cheers!

I never got into the j geils band.
kill em all though is their best album (metallica) and I think that is because dave mustaine wrote a good amount of the music on that one. mustaine trumps hammett easily.

Megadeth is and always has been better than Metallica.

I'm not trying to get controversial. I know about J Geils before they sold out, kind o' like 'em. Maybe Rocketman could weigh in? I had a lot of fun writing and editing and posting that, Btw. Thanx for letting it have a home here.
I pretty much agree about K'EA. Although I believe that everything they did with Cliff Burton rules and nothing they did with Cliff Burton sucks.

I can't argue with that. But at either band's absolute zenith? I'd PROBABLY give the nod to Lars and Jimmy's crew. I think it's unquestionable that Dave and David and whoever had the much longer shelf-life of sustained excellence.
Anyway, Happy Easter to everyone (or at least a pleasant Sunday)! As the talented, alcoholic man who actually closed the show at my 1st-ever Metallica concert told me and about 12K of my peeps, "Thank you! We love you! God Bless. Good night!"

And, o yeah. Better than either for a longer period than both combined? Slayer.

I never got in to J. Geils band either but I respect their work as talented musicians and it's sad that Mr. Geils has passed away. RIP.
Megadeth hasnt sold as many records as Metallica but that doesn't mean they aren't the better band. I like all METALLICA old and new. Same with Megadeth. Both bands are extremely talented but I have to agrew that Megadeth is more talented than Metallica. They have written some of the best guitar riffs of all time.

Slayer is probably the most influential metal band ever. Without them there would not be 'extreme' metal; death, black, grind core etc. I would put them and Sabbath as the most influential metal bands of all time.
