Re: What music are you listening to Vol. 2
Thanks for sharing your thoughts, R'man, especially since I asked. There's only four of us on this here thread, and I'm glad all have weighed in this week.
It's late (or early) and I'm tired. But I was going to flip the script and link to something badass, like perhaps Viv Campbell-era Dio. Maybe tomorrow.
Cheers!

OK. I try to be a nice guy and not complain a lot? But if y'all think you can just leave me here by myself to post ALL the Dio vids all by my lonesome?
Perhaps you're right...

RIP Dio!! HAIL Judas Priest!! Great selection on the C.O.C.
Re: What music are you listening to Vol. 2
Hey, Ophion. Thx. I tried to think of something badass to post by a band that I haven't seen much of on this thread. You know, to flip the scrip' as we say here in the dirty south (and I'm not SURE we don't actually say " 'scrip' "). Anyhow, I never forgot CoC by any means, I just haven't thought of 'em in a minnit. Good times. And I figured that the Paul, George and John of this thread would probably dig it. Yea!!! Me? I'm just happy to be here!
Cheers!

Have you heard Down? I'm not sure who is in the band now but the original lineup was Phil Anselmo (Pantera), Kirk Windstein (Crowbar), Todd Strange (Crowbar), Pepper Keenan (C.O.C.) and Jimmy Bower (Eyehategod). It's a New Orleans "super group," which I love because New Orleans (NOLA) is my favorite metal scene in the world. Todd left Down at some point and was replaced by Rex from Pantera ( who now lives here in Albuquerque!). I'm not sure who the bassist is now, but I know it's not Rex. I think Pepper left Down not all that long ago, but not really sure. I used to be such a metal nerd that I could tell you anything about any band, but not so much these days.
Anyways, Down is a badass southern metal band that I think you would dig...
Here is the entire NOLA album if you wanna check it out...
Re: What music are you listening to Vol. 2
Another band you might like is Anesthesia. Good friends of mine from here in Albuquerque. They are like old Metallica, Pantera and C.O.C. all mixed together.
Re: What music are you listening to Vol. 2
I know OF Down. Not sure if I've ever heard them. Likely be a band I've been Meaning to check out...
Runnin' out of excuses!
Thannks, bro'!
PS: Once a metal nerd, always a metal nerd! That's not a bad thing

Kings and Queens and guillotines
are taking lines tonight
Starchment Parchment lazy sons
of Bishops took a ride
Only to the sea...
Or something like that. Sounded like it to my childhood ears when I first heard it and said to myself, "Move over, Mr James Patrick Page!"
That MAY have been an over-estimation. But not by much. Zep's WAY better than Aerosmith. But Draw the Line beats In Through the Out Door any day (and MAYBE Presence) and it's not even close.

Try this simple test, Eric, Ophion and R'man.

Ok. I agree. Mostly. If it waz on Draw the Line or something released prior to Draw the Line, it was at least pretty great. Their only unquestionable masterpiece? Why Rocks of course! Easily. But I wouldn't quibble much with a Toys in the Attic partisan.
So, even the little pleasures I've gotten (yea, I ain't 'shamed) from some of their later output faded into irritation or at least boredom by the 4th time I'd heard them.
But there's a quirky, little-known (by Permanent Vacation standards) exception in the post-Draw the Line catalogue. It's called Done with Mirrors and it's really fucking good.
But there's a caveat: Only side 1 of the US cassette tape release was really fucking good. Side 2 was pretty much up-summable by comedian Sarah Silverman's capsule review of the flavor and texture of her pet dog, Doug's, asshole (Yea, no shit. Really!).
So, if you're bored, try this simple test: find the US cassette and listen to side one. See what you think. Or find out what side one is on said format and listen free on a computer. Whatevs. I doubt anyone here will love it (including me) but I'm sure most will be pleasantly suprized. Maybe I'm wrong. Hey, try this simple test!
