Tom Hanson's suspect
Tom Hanson made The Zodiac Killer (1971) movie. I found this cool interview that you should all read...
http://templeofschlock.blogspot.com/2012/12/zodiac-hunter-interview-with-tom-hanson.html
Tom is a very interesting guy and the story of how he tried to catch Zodiac is pretty amazing. This thread is to discuss Tom's suspect and hopefully we can somehow identify who the suspect is.
Here are some things we know about the suspect:
-Resembled the Stine sketch
-Apparently his handwriting is a match to the Z letters
-Wore military style boots
-Lived at the Astoria Hotel in SF and worked at Bank of America until he was fired
-Later lived in Daly City and worked as a mailman
-Married a Japanese woman

Re: Tom Hanson's suspect
I swear I had researched a guy before who worked at Bank of America in SF but I don't remember who he was or why I researched him. I thought it was someone in the secret suspect section of Morf's site, but I can't find the thread and have looked through all of the threads a few times.
Re: Tom Hanson's suspect
A year and a half ago I posted this on Morf's site.........
"Months ago I was researching somebody (forget who) who was an associate of a person being discussed in the top secret suspect area of the forum, and the guy was some big shot manager at Bank of America and I do remember the guy having a couple interesting coincidences to the Zodiac case. I need to start taking notes on everything and everyone I read about. I'll see if I can dig up the guys name again."
I wish I could remember who the hell it was that I was researching.

Re: Tom Hanson's suspect
I have an idea... it's not a very good one but it just might work. It will take a long time and be very boring, but I will give it a try. In the 1969-70 SF directory, most people have their occupation listed. I could flip through the entire book and make a list of every man listed as working at Bank of America and then research each person. If I can find a man who ended up living in Daly City and working as a mailman then it is most likely the right guy. Again, this would be a pain in the ass, but I'm going to give it a shot. Unless someone has a way to contact Tom Hanson??? Maybe he would be willing to share his suspect's name... Now, the one thing I worry about is that the suspect didn't work at Bank of America in 1969-1970. Going by Tom's interview, he would have worked at the bank in 1971 and/or 1972 so it is possible he didn't work there at the time the directory came out. The is the king of all long shots.
Here is a link to the directory if anyone wants to give me a hand...

Re: Tom Hanson's suspect
Found a guy I had briefly researched before...
Anthony John "Tony" Zanze 3899 Jackson St. Bank of America employee. Wife Jane O. Zanze. 1 block from Wash & Cherry and just a few blocks down from the home of Mr. X. Born May 28, 1931 in Sacramento. Member of the Bohemian Club. Spent a lot of time at operas. The problem is that it says nothing about living in Daly City or working for a post office, so we can probably scratch this guy off.

Re: Tom Hanson's suspect
Oops, just noticed the suspect moved FROM Daly City instead of TO Daly City.....
"He had now moved out of Daly City to another town, I forgot the name of it, but we found out where he had moved to."
Shit. So he lived in Daly City when he was working at Bank of America and then moved to another town and became a mailman.

Working on it!! I might... MIGHT... have some good news soon.
Re: Tom Hanson's suspect
I think Tom Hanson's suspect is the most interesting POI out there right now. I have been trying to reach out to Tom and others in the cast & crew for his Zodiac movie (1971). I think this is an excellent thread to have started.

Re: Tom Hanson's suspect
I hope we can get the suspects name. Like Bugs said, this might be the most interesting suspect at the moment but that could be because we haven't had a new suspect in a while. Who knows maybe this suspect is a name we will recognize but in all honesty I am hoping it's someone we haven't heard of yet. From the little bit we know about the guy it seems like it is someone we haven't heard of yet.

Do we know the names of any of Hanson's friends who were with him in the theater? If so then maybe we could find a way to contact one (or more) of them assuming any of them are still alive.

Re: Tom Hanson's suspect
I was hoping that the 1969-1970 SF directory would have a listing of everyone who lived at the Astoria Hotel, but they do not... was worth a shot.
Re: Tom Hanson's suspect
'The Zodiac Man' documentary will be released this year and I have a feeling that Hanson's suspect will come out in this documentary. The trailer shows Earl Van Best Jr., so it is probably him. I never liked Earl as a suspect, but if he is Hanson's suspect then he will move way up my list.
Re: Tom Hanson's suspect
I have read Hanson's interview at Temple Of Schlock about a dozen times that's how crazy and intriguing it is. Any news on the Pizza Man documentary?

It's in production right now.
I just typed "Daly City, CA post office obituary" into google, and check out the first thing that pops up....

Interesting name. And his face looks kind of evil.
A few names to research if anyone feels up to it.....

This one is interesting, although I believe Hanson said his suspect moved to Daly City in the early 70's while he was investigating him. That would likely dismiss this guy here... https://www.legacy.com/obituaries/sfgate/obituary.aspx?n=travis-sylvester-wert&pid=15443527&fhid=2515
