"Sentenced to death 3 times"

I have seen ridiculous shit like this before, but just now I was reading about a serial killer who was "Sentenced to death 3 times." What's the fucking point? Sentence the guy to death once, kill his ass and get it over with. It's also weird when someone receives more than one life sentence. If there is a next life, you can't punish them in that next life.
