Found a newspaper article where 3 things stood out - cab drivers, stamps and Vallejo.

Stamps for Riders featured in the June 19, 1963 Fitchburg Sentinel (Fitchburg, Mass.)
It basically said this-
Vallejo cab drivers were giving out stamps to riders who could redeem the stamps for a free cab ride. The district attourney forced the cabbies to stop doing this and said it was an illegal practice for whatever reason.

So you're saying Z may have been one of these Vallejo cabbies? I don't really see it just from that little bit of information, but could be something to look into. Let me know if you find out anything else about that story.
